    What are your first thoughts about a marketing campaign for your company r brand? Do you immediately think “online ad campaign, press releases and social media strategy?” Those are the standard tools, but marketing can be a lot more imaginative if you just think outside the box.

    If you really want to get people talking about your business, try these unusual marketing tactics.

     

    Viral videos

    Do you remember Dove’s “Real Beauty” campaign from 2013? That’s a great example of how video can promote brand. It went viral because it didn’t just talk about the product; it also raised awareness about women’s body image issues. To date it has had over 64 million views. Not bad!

     

    Start a trend

    One day a Starbucks’ customer started a ‘pay it forward’ trend when she paid for the coffee of the customer behind her. After nearly 11 hours of paying it forward, 378 customers had passed on the good deed and Starbucks’ staff helped to keep it going. The trend caught press attention and benefited Starbucks, even though it didn’t start the trend. Giving back to the community is another way to show your customers that you’re not just in it for the money.

     

    Get into street art

    In 2009, fast food company Domino’s Pizza teamed up with eco-friendly marketing firm GreenGraffiti to create “reverse graffiti” on walls across New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Cleaning up the environment in a novel way is another ‘outside the box’ marketing concept.

     

    Use of reflection

    Fenwick’s store in Newcastle upon Tyne is famous for its Christmas window display and Gregg’s, the master of the sausage roll and steak bake, flipped its logo around so that passers-by saw Gregg’s orange, blue and white logo in reverse. Fenwick’s, which gathers a crowd outside every year for the unveiling of the display, decided to theme the exhibit around the magical children’s book “The Snowman” and there among the carefully curated images of the carrot-nosed character and magical snow-topped props, shines a bright Gregg’s-shaped logo. The timing beautifully dovetails with the impending launch of the fast-food chain’s 2018 Christmas menu.

    Don’t stick with the standard ideas
