Google Search Generative Experience
If you thought that all this hype surrounding AI wouldn’t last long, you’d be wrong! AI has had a real moment over the past year or so, in part due to the emergence of ChatGPT, but also because its capabilities seem to know no bounds. AI breakthroughs have allowed us to create some of the most innovative products and solutions, from media to healthcare, and it’s showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.
Some of the world’s biggest players, including Google, are now utilising AI in their products, creating bigger and better experiences than ever before. Back in November 2023, Google announced the introduction of their Search Generative Experience, a new way to search the internet with assistance from AI, and it looks set to potentially transform our online search potential completely.
In this blog, we will tell you more about the Google Search generative experience and look at how it’s paving the way for a new era in online search.
Understanding Generative Technologies
Before digging into the specifics of Search Generative Experience (SGE), let’s briefly explore the concept of generative technologies. At its core, generative technology involves the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate content, for example, text, images, or other forms of media. In the context of Google Search, this means using advanced algorithms, machine learning, and natural language processing to dynamically create search results tailored to the user’s query.
These technologies have made our digital lives a little easier, but how has Google integrated it into search results? Let’s take a look!
Intelligent Follow-ups
SGE from Google introduces users to the concept of asking follow-ups, enabling them to delve deeper into more complex or evolving information journeys seamlessly. The AI technology comprehends context, reformulating queries to align with the user’s intent. This real-time adaption ensures a more fluid and dynamic search process, providing relevant content as the conversation evolves.
Tailoring Search for Specialised Needs
For those users engaged in specific verticals like shopping or local searches, SGE acts as a personalised guide. Revealing key considerations and product information, this AI-driven search delivers a snapshot of factors to aid decision-making. In terms of shopping, users can explore a range of options with up-to-date information, while local searches benefit from AI-powered insights for easy comparisons.
Search Ads
Ads will continue to play a critical role, seamlessly integrating with the user’s search journey, and to maintain transparency, Google ensures that ads are distinguishable from organic search results, offering a comprehensive and clear search experience.
Image Generation
Like other similar products, Google is also introducing the ability to create images with the help of generative AI in SGE. Do you want a picture of a llama wearing pyjamas that is carrying a suitcase? Google will give you up to 4 AI-generated images to choose from!
Boosting User Experience
Google’s commitment to user experience (UI) is unparalleled. SGE integrates seamlessly into the Search user interface, providing users with an intuitive experience on both desktop and mobile devices. The AI-powered snapshot features easily accessible resources with a familiar UI that invites users to explore further.
Going Forward with SGE from Google
For now, SGE is only available in the US, meaning that it may be some time before we get to try out these new features ourselves, however, if all goes well, the rest of the world could see SGE rolled out soon. We can’t wait to try it out ourselves!
