SEO is changing in 2019
SEO is changing all the time and we’ve been looking at some of the SEO strategies and tactics that are likely to be coming into play in 2019, according to some of the leading experts. It’s important for us to pay attention to these developments so that our clients achieve the best Return on Investment (ROI).
Top Tips for SEO in 2019
Know your audience
Know your audience. This is always vital, but do you know if your customers prefer blogs, videos or audio. SEO experts say that knowing your audiences’ media preferences is going to be even more important in 2019 than in previous years. Mindy Weinstein CEO of Market Mindshift says, “You need to understand what someone is expecting to find when they query a word or phrase and you need to give them the answer in the simplest way possible.”
Make the journey more enjoyable
Your website needs to offer visitors a pleasurable experience, which web professionals refer to as a ‘journey’. The more consumer-friendly your site is, the more both your customers and Google will reward you. Jesse McDonald, SEO specialist and director of operations for TopHatRank.com says this has become more important “because rankings have been fluctuating over the past year to help fit the semantic intent of a user’s search query.” He added, “It will be more critical than ever for SEOs and content specialists to focus heavily on the user intent of the keywords they are targeting while creating content.”
Change your keyword research
Following on from what Jesse McDonald says about “intent of the keywords,” It is noticeable that Google has been shifting around the idea of keyword intent, which, according to Casie Gillette, senior director of digital marketing at KoMarketing means rethinking keyword research. Gillette says, “Do I want to spend time and money trying to rank for a broad term or should I instead shift my focus to terms further down the funnel, where buyers are more knowledgeable and more likely to be interested in what I’m selling?”
Chuck Price, founder of Measurable SEO suggests the following: “When doing keyword research in 2019, it’s imperative that you check the SERPs to see if websites like yours are ranking for a targeted phrase. If the top SERPs are filled with directories or review sites and your site isn’t one of those, then move on to another phrase.”
Create content that answers a problem
Google’s algorithm updates last year indicate that it is more focused than ever on evaluating content for quality, and is also looking at the depth and breadth of a site’s content. Eric Enge, general manager of Perficient Digital, did some research into this and discovered the following: “The sites that provided exceptional depth in quality content coverage literally soared in rankings throughout the year. Sites that were weaker in their content depth suffered in comparison.” He predicts that Google will reward websites “that provide the best in-depth experiences.”
Google is always fine tuning its algorithm, and old content practices are less likely now to attract links that boost Google ranking. Some experts believe that it is now better to produce better quality content, such as a blog, and publish it less frequently than churning out two or three per week. Matt Siltala, president of Avalaunch Media suggests that the best way to go with content is “create content that solves a problem – content that moves, motivates, and connects with people.” He added a wise piece of advice: “Do your research, be the solution to the problem that people have, and provide something that is meant for people versus trying to ‘SEO’ the crap out of it and you will always do better in your efforts.”
