    This deserves a mention

It’s one thing keeping track of your personal social media accounts, but when you’re running a social media strategy for several clients you need some method of keeping track of any “mentions” across all the networks you use. It’s particularly important when you want to keep track of what your clients’ customers are saying about their product; both good and bad.

I signed up for mention.com. It is pretty easy to use and not only does the company alert you to all mentions, it also shares some useful information with its users. So, I thought I’d share some of their findings with you.

    • Afraid that your brand is going to be mauled in the media. Actually, 76% of brand mentions are pretty neutral. Most mentions are people who need assistance with a product or are looking for advice. This is a sign that customer service has gone social. Negative comments are around 6% while positive comments are closer to 18%.
    • 67% of company mentions occur on Twitter. But you can build your audience through your own unique blend of social media usage.
    • Wondering on which day you’re brand is likely to get the most mentions? It’s Thursday apparently. But Tuesday looks pretty good as well. Saturday, Sunday and Monday have the lowest percentages of mentions, but don’t ignore them altogether.
    • The majority of brand mentions –that’s 91% of them—are made by people with less than 500 followers. Make sure you follow these people back and don’t just focus on the 9% with the large number of followers.
    • English is the top social media language with 65% of mentions. However, don’t ignore the remaining 35%. You need a strategy to handle them. About 12% of mentions are in Spanish and 16% in French.

I hope that’s given you something to think about as well as some nice statistics to share with your colleagues over a glass of wine.
