Social Media Marketing Sources and Great People to Follow

I came across this publication “The Content Marketer’s Dictionary” via my eMarketer FYI daily updates, which I must say are very useful if you haven’t discovered them yet. Get yourself over here https://www.emarketer.com/newsletter and sign up for the newsletter. If you’re looking for Twitter and FB posts; eMarketer is a great source of easy-to-understand information that keeps you updated about a very wide range of marketing and advertising news.

Every profession likes its jargon and marketing is certainly no different. This publication, which you’ll have to sign for by supplying your company email address etc etc, is downloadable  from http://newscred.com ; a good source of information and support if you’re planning a content marketing strategy.  When you hit the home page, scroll down to The Academy, where you’ll find a library of invaluable information. And the dictionary. Here you’ll find all the key terms explained: you’ll never have to wonder what a “flashmob” or “geolocation” is again. And, of course the ubiquitous “meme.”

Another information source I had seen floating around Facebook and Twitter, but because of the way some people had used this source, I thought it was aimed at Personal Development professionals rather than social media marketers. If you’ve spotted Kim Garst but don’t follow her on Twitter or haven’t visited her website, go there now http://kimgarst.com . Kim is the CEO and founder of Boom! Social with Kim Garst and she’s now one of the Top 50 social media power influencers, according to Forbes.

Kim explains things very clearly. She also understands that social media is about being human, because when I tweeted about one of her articles on the topic of Google+, a platform I currently struggle to love; she tweeted me back with an encouraging message. And you have to remember she has thousands of people retweeting her pearls of wisdom.

I’d also like to give a special mention to Mashable at  http://mashable.com/social-media/. These guys really understand how to hook you in with a newsfeed that has a carefully thought-out visual strategy, which also makes them very social media friendly when you’re looking for something attention-grabbing to tweet. As I’m writing, I see a post “YouTube, Facebook account for nearly third of mobile traffic” that looks interesting for a work-related post, but I have just spotted “Which States Talk More About Netflix than Sex,” which is a post I’d put on my personal Twitter account, but perhaps not on Peppermint’s or that of a client!.

If you’re looking for people to follow on Twitter, Facebook or any of the social media platforms then Forbes magazine is the go-to source of info on who’s who in the Top 50 social media influencers. The 2013 list http://onforb.es/1sRtq0Q shows that Sean Gardner of The Huffington Post is top dog; he blends social media insights with inspirational messaging. It is very interesting to note, when you study Forbes’ list, is the number of women on the list. Perhaps it’s no surprise that when it comes to social media, the gender that “allegedly” talks more and thrives on social contact in real life has had little trouble becoming leaders and trail-blazers in social media marketing.
