Marketing Marbella – A Dining Destination

Traditionally people come to Marbella for the sun and its glamorous image. The hotels and beaches of the Costa del Sol have drawn international celebrities for decades and, as Pancho Campo pointed out at the presentation Peppermint Spain attended recently, Marbella has better weather than Cannes and St. Tropez, those other iconic destinations of the jet set. Marbella should be on a par with these French towns and now there are signs that it has figured out how to get there. One of the answers to establishing Marbella’s reputation as a five star destination is – food.

    Michelin Guide 2015
Food has become quite a significant attraction for Andalucía and we’re not talking about traditional Spanish tapas. The culinary arts have become a central element in marketing Marbella and with several Michelin starred chefs along the Costa del Sol, led by Dani García, who has just moved his restaurant to the Puente Romano, we are talking about turning the Marbella area into a fine dining destination.

To support this, the world famous Michelin Guide for Spain 2015 will be launched at the Hotel Los Monteros this November. This is truly a first for Marbella, because Michelin have only ever launched the guide in Madrid, Barcelona or that other great Spanish foodie destination – the Basque country. The launch of the Michelin Guide is one of the most important gastronomic events in Spain and the Mayoress of Marbella is delighted to be welcoming international press and personalities to the event.

    Kempinski Hotel Bahía
Michelin starred restaurants aren’t the only ones to play a part in making Marbella a dining destination. Just a few months ago Peppermint Spain was thrilled to be approached by the five star Kempinski Bahía hotel, located between Marbella and Estepona. The new manager Jean-Marc Poli – with the help of his highly qualified chefs and the food and beverages manager Victor Betro– has envisioned a culinary offering that emphasises the hotel’s philosophy of only using the freshest products and locally sourced ingredients.

    Kempinski Posters
Peppermint Spain along with the Kempinski’s in house photographer Juan Antonio, created a series of stunning posters to showcase the hotels’ four restaurants and two bars. In addition to the Alminar Wine and Steak House where meat lovers can savour the highest quality cuts of Spanish meats including wagyu and kobe beef, there’s the beachside La Cabaña del Mar where you can enjoy the best of Andalusian fish dishes. We designed a fun menu for La Cabaña based on a newspaper format, which British visitors will recognise as a nod to the traditional wrapping for fish and chips back home. They also offer an interesting high tea—La Merienda in Spanish— a new offering on the Costa del Sol.

We’re delighted to have a client like the Kempinski Hotel Bahía and it’s a pleasure to design promotional materials that include such visually stunning cuisine (the wine cellar and the specialist whiskies they have are another big attraction). It’s a big part of the new marketing Marbella story and we love being part of it!
